What's in a Study Spark?

Study Sparks...
  • explore issues in other countries
  • are richly illustrated
  • support key skills and functional skills
  • act as springboards for further study.

Study Sparks can be…

  • integrated into a normal sequence of planned lessons within subject areas
  • used as part of celebrations (such as Chinese New Year)
  • used during special project weeks.

Study Sparks help pupils to...

  • develop skills in the CBI employability framework
  • develop key skills and wider key skills
  • develop personal capabilities
  • apply their knowledge to new situations.

Each Study Spark starts with and illustration and brief text which together reveal something about the culture of a country. These are followed by activities and further information such as maps, photographs and tables of data to support the activities.

Study Sparks encourage the most effective learning approaches: discussion, practice by doing and teaching others. 2
